As Springtime begins to blossom around us, I’d like to pause and think about themes of the season and how they are reflected in work and life as each of us pushes forward towards a renewed sense of clarity and focus for ourselves and our futures. The vernal equinox and the coming of spring is celebrated throughout the world from Easter in western and christian cultures, to New Year’s and springtime celebrations in Asia and the middle east. Even the Ancient Egyptians celebrated a national holiday for the spring equinox. No matter how you celebrate spring, the themes are universal; rebirth, renewal, fertility and a celebration of life. This spring has been for me not only an echoing of those themes in life itself but these themes have resonated deeply in my business and in my work as an artist.
I am excited to see and feel a shift in my focus as an artist and in my goals in service of my clients as a business owner. The season brings extra clarity and vitality as I begin new projects and designs for local and long distance customers. As a younger designer it was really about finding my voice. Now in my 40’s, I feel honored to use my designer's eye and technical skills in executing such personally meaningful and symbolic pieces for my clients. When asked recently to define my business, my answer was that my business is my artistry in service of my clients. I truly feel that deep down, it is my drive everyday in all of the work that I do. I don’t know that that would have been the answer I would have given even 10 years ago.
Over the last few years I have been honored and touched to work closely with customers to bring to life those few pieces we wear which hold the deepest sentiments of our lives. I am inspired by the people I work with and their stories. Aiding my clients in expressing their unique history, milestone or relationship is ultimately my greatest joy. My constant goal has been mastery of traditional metal and goldsmithing techniques including wax-carving by hand, stone setting, fabrication and engraving. I am thrilled and blessed to do this work that I deeply love and look forward to many more projects with many special souls honoring and celebrating their milestones and loves.
