Mixing Business with Pleasure

Mixing Business with Pleasure

Fly Fishing the Snake River has long been on my father’s bucket list so when I saw there was an Art Fair in Jackson Hole, WY last spring I applied immediately. I realized a few years ago that traveling to shows, although potentially exhausting, could provide a unique opportunity to explore the beauty of our country. You really get to know a place while doing a show. Interacting with the residents on a personal level and hearing what they love about their home and favorite spots can provide insight that might be missed as a typical tourist.

This was certainly the case last month when I brought both my father and my youngest son Ryan with me to Jackson for the show. We extended our stay and were able to visit Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks. The area is so special and so alive. Unique geysers and thermal features, wildlife, soaring snow capped mountains, cooling pines and plunging waterfalls enthralled us. The spaciousness and wildness of the west is already making its way into my design language. I’m from a large family and it can be difficult to find one on one time together. The memories I took away from this trip will be treasured for a lifetime, reminding me that I am blessed to know business and pleasure as one and the same
